Gerard Carty is an Architect in Practice, having qualified in 1987 with B.Arch Sc. (Hons.) University of Dublin, Trinity College and a Dip. Arch (Hons.) School of Architecture, Dublin Institute of Technology. He is a Director at Grafton Architects, Dublin and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland.
Following qualification he worked for a number of practices in the UK and Ireland, spending three years in the studio of Guillermo Vazquez in Seville Spain before returning to Ireland in 1992. He is a director at Grafton Architects where, since 1993, he has contributed to the ideas, ethos and management of the practice. Grafton Architects is a Dublin based practice with a strong national and international profile. The work of the practice has been exhibited and published widely. The practice has received numerous awards and has been premiated in a number of national and international competitions. In 2008 the practice was awarded the World Architecture Prize for a significant extension to the University of Bocconi in Milan, Italy. The practice has always had an interest and involvement with teaching.
Ger has been a constituent member of the Board of Advisors to the New School of Architecture at UL Limerick and has been teaching at SAUL since its foundation.
He has acted in the role of invited Critic to other Schools of Architecture , School of Architecture DIT, Dublin, School of Architecture UCD, Dublin, GSD, Harvard, School of Architecture UL, School of Landscape Architecture UCD and the RIAI part 2 Examination. From 2012-15 he acted as Extern Examiner to the School of Architecture UCD Dublin and at CESUGA La Coruna Spain
